Water Treatment by Electrodialysis (Reversal) – ED(R)

Electrodialysis stands out as a robust technology, distinguishing itself from RO systems. In ED(R), water isn’t forced through membranes; instead, electrically charged particles pass through cation and anion membranes. This intrinsic design makes electrodialysis an exceptionally sturdy choice for various applications.

MEGA’s RALEX membranes further elevate the reliability of our ED(R) systems. Known for their extreme robustness, these membranes allow for low and high pH cleanings and exhibit superior resistance to burning. This makes them ideal for challenging water applications, including wastewater reuse.

The versatility of ED(R) systems extends to their polarity reversal (EDR) capability. By reversing the polarity, electrically charged particles are efficiently removed from the membrane surface, ensuring a clean system and enabling higher water recoveries. This feature is particularly advantageous in applications where minimizing or concentrating the waste stream is crucial.

The ED(R)-30 stack, a flagship product in our line, boasts the highest flow in the market, delivering up to 60 m3/h per line. It features long-life electrodes and has undergone upgrades to minimize internal and external leakages, simplify stack interconnections, and streamline stack maintenance.

Electrodialysis proves highly efficient as a key stage in Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) applications. MEGA’s innovative ED(R) -IF stack, designed to operate at high salt concentrations in the brine stream (up to 200 g/l), achieves over 98% recovery of treated water when paired with an RO system.
